SLA accused of claymore attack on passenger bus

Vanni district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Mr.V.Selvam Adaikalanathan in a statement issued Sunday accused the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for the claymore mine attack on the passenger bus at Piramanalankulam bound for Vavuniya from Mannar on Saturday. Eight civilians were killed and about 25 injured in the attack.
Vanni residents are of opinion that the Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) of the Sri Lanka Army is responsible for the Piramanalankulam claymore attack, the MP said in his condemnation. The DPU arm of the SLA has been engaged in conducting such attacks on LTTE cadres and Tamil civilians, Mr.Adaikalanathan said. Piramanalankulam attack is considered as a revenge act for the bomb blast in a bus in Amparai, he further said. Attacks on civilian population, wherever it takes place, should be condemned. The government blamed the LTTE for the Amparai bomb blast. But LTTE denied any responsibility. Sri Lankan government was also quick to blame the Tigers for the attack in Piramanaalankulam. Immediate action should be taken to stop all attacks targeting civilian population, Mr.Adaikalanathan appealed in his statement.
