Unidentified persons who came in white vans abducted two Tamil youths, one at Kadawatte and the other at Peliyagoda on Wednesday last week. Pathmanathan Pratheepan, 23, native of Mattakuliya and a resident of Peliyagoda was abducted at Peliyagoda junction after being assaulted and the other Ramiah Jeyakanthan, 24, resident of Wattala at Kadawatte junction when he was travelling in a bus, parents said in their complaints lodged with the police stations concerned, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
Mr.P.Radhakrishnan, Colombo district Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF) parliamentarian and a deputy minister also has been informed of these abductions, sources said. Parents of Pratheepan said in their complaints that a sergeant of the Peliyagoda police station came to their house a day before the abduction and asked Pratheepan to report to the station the next day Thursday. But Pratheepan was abducted Wednesday night around 9.30 p.m. by unidentified persons who came in a van.
