Resign post, get back to USA, UNP MP tells Gotabhaya
[TamilNet, Tuesday, 10 April 2007, 09:52 GMT]
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse should immediately accept responsibility for the security fiasco of the Katuayake air base when it was attacked by the Liberation Tigers air wing, and relinquish his post and get back to USA, demanded Johnston Fernando, Kurunagalle district parliamentarian of the opposition United National Party (UNP) at a press meet held Monday noon, in the Sri Lankan Opposition Leaders office in Colombo.
It was known already back in 1990 that Liberation Tigers were in possession of air crafts, the UNP MP said. Former SL President Chandrika Bandaranayake had anti-aircraft missiles installed in the Presidential residence. It is ridiculous to say that the Liberation Tigers acquired air crafts only after the signing of the Cease Fire Agreement, the UNP MP said. Johnston Fernando also accused the Sri Lanka government for not conducting investigation into the accusations raised against it on corruption charges in relation to the purchase of MIG 27 type jet fighters.
