9 Tamil civilians arrested in Muthur

Nine Tamil civilians were arrested in Iruthayapuram, a Tamil village in Muthur south division, during a cordon and search operation conducted by combined security forces on Thursday from dawn till evening. All of the arrested were handed over to the Muthur police for further questioning, sources said.
Muthur police sources said that those arrested were suspected to be members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and were being subjected interrogation. Meanwhile, parents and relatives of those arrested have made complaints with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) that all of them were innocents and had no connections with the LTTE. The parents appealed to the ICRC to take steps to release them as soon as possible.
