Batticaloa infant succumbs to shelling injuries

A six month old infant injured during artillery shelling by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) towards Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam ( LTTE) controlled Paduvankarai area in Batticaloa two weeks ago succumbed to the injuries on Saturday.
The baby identified as Saththary Thilliampalam, was initially admitted at Batticaloa Hospital for treatment of heart injury, and later transferred to a privately owned medical institution, Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo, for further treatment. However, the infant lost her fight for life Saturday, sources said. The internally displaced parents of the deceased infant, presently residing at the Welfare Centre at Urani, has sought the assistance of the office of the Batticaloa regional office of Church of South India.
