2 youths, family man abducted in Eravur

Armed men in a white van abducted a labourer between Mavadivembu and Kommanthurai in Eravur police division in Batticaloa last week, according to complaints lodged with Eravur police Tuesday. Meanwhile, unknown armed men on a motor cycle had abducted two youths on their way to purchase goods at Eravur public market last week at Arumugathan Kudirruppu Main street, according to complaints made by the youths' mothers Tuesday at Eravur police.
The labourer abducted by white van gunmen was identified as Visuvalingam Mahendran, 27, of Mavadivembu area, a father of two children. The friends abducted were identified as Subramaniam Sasikumar, 18, and Thanikasalam Mathurathurai, 19, of Vipulanandapuram, Mylambaveli. The two youths, labourers by profession, had gone missing after going to Eravur market last week, according to their mothers' complaints made with Eravur police Tuesday. Mavadivembu is situated 19 km north of Batticaloa town.
