JVP, JHU, SMS file appeals in SC on CFA
[TamilNet, Wednesday, 18 April 2007, 13:10 GMT]
Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Jathika Hela Urumaya,
all monks' party and Sinhala Maha Sabha (SMS) have filed appeals in the Sri
Lanka's Supreme Court challenging the order made by the Court of Appeal
(CA) dismissing their petitions filed against the ceasefire agreement
seeking it cancellation.
Mr.Tilvin Silva, general secretary of JVP, Mr.Champika Ranawake,
political advisor of JHU and Dr. Piyasena Dissanayake, President of SMS
filed their appeals in the SC Tuesday separately stating that the Court of
Appeal has erred in dismissing their original petitions on the ground that
they have not fulfilled the required legal basis. And also the Court of
Appeal (CA) refused to issue notice on the respondents, Mr.Ranil
Wickremasinghe, then Prime Minister and Mr.V.Pirapaharan, LTTE leader,
signatories of the CFA and members of the then cabinet of ministers. The Court of Appeal had wrongfully interpreted the CFA as a document
politically and policy oriented one, the petition said. Petitioners in their appeals have begged the Supreme Court to direct the
Court of Appeal to issue notice on the respondents cited in their original
petitions and to commence proper inquiry.
