Backlog of parcels shipped to Jaffna

The Cargo vessel "Induruwa", carrying nearly 6000 parcels lying in backlog in Trincomalee post office since January, sailed Tuesday evening to Kankesanthurai harbour in Jaffna peninsula, Department of Postal Services (DPS) said. Only parcels containing medicine, weighing up to one kg, would be accepted to Jaffna district, according to an announcement by DPS.

Vessels transporting food, cement and other materials to Jaffna would also take mails received by Trincomalee post office, once in two days, Postal Department sources said.

Eighteen lorries were deployed Tuesday to transport the parcels to Chinabay Jetty where Induruwa was anchored.
