Military clad men rob houses in Eravur

Unidentified armed men in military fatigues wearing masks robbed cash, jewels and household things in Thamaraikkerny- Hisbullah village, a Muslim resettlement village situated in the border of Tamil area in Eravur town, in Batticaloa district, around 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
A group of around 10 robbers threatened the inmates of four houses including women and children at gunpoint and then removed all the jewels they were wearing. They also searched the houses and got away with all valuables. They also robbed a small shop located adjoining the houses. The victims, M.L. Sahabdeen, K. M. Jesmin, H. M. Jalaltheen, U. Asanar and P. Paumy lodged complaints with Eravur Police. Even though the Police rushed to the scene, the culprits escaped. The affected are ordinary people, and not rich, civil sources said. Recently a group of armed persons in military fatigues robbed seven houses on the neighboring Saddam Hussein village in the same style, and escaped destroying an electric transformer in the area.
