SLA shoots dead mentally-ill youth in Palaali

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers shot dead a youth Sunday night at Senthaankulam SLA Front Defence Line (FDL) area, within Palaali High Security Zone (HSZ), according to statement given during inquest into death conducted by Mallaaham Magistrate Ms. Sarojini Illankovan, Monday.

The victim was identified as Sinnathurai Sujijeyanthiran, 19, a mentally ill youth, from Maathahal.

Sujijeyanthiran had lost his way when he went out of his house Sunday evening and had entered SLA FDL area at Senthaankulam, his father said in his statement to the magistrate.

The victim's body was recovered riddled with bullets fired in rapid succession.

The magistrate directed the body to be given to the victim's relatives after post mortem examination.
