Puththa'lam villagers attacked by armed men

Four Muslim youths were seriously injured when a group of armed persons attacked several families residing in Veappamadu village located at 4th milepost along Puththalam Mannaar road Sunday morning. The Muslim families in Veappamadu were displaced from Jaffna district, sources said.

Armed men dressed in civil and uniform came in two vehicles allegedly owned by Sri Lanka Army (SLA), according to initial complaints by villagers to the police.

B.Akbar, 38, A.Nasrudeen, 30, D.Asmal, 36, and M.Ashraff, 32, were warded in the Puththalam hospital, sources said.

A police team rushed to the site and recorded the statements of the villagers on the attack, sources said.
