Mentally ill man found dead in Point Pedro

A family man from Alvaay who was earlier taken for interrogation, and tortured by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers, was found dead 8 days after he went missing from Point Pedro Base Hospital in Manthikai where he was receiving treatment for mental illness, sources in Point Pedro said. Hospital sources said they suspect suicide.

Thiraviam Vijaykumar, 40, is a family man who owned a motor repair garage at Nelliyadi in Vadamaraadchi.

Vijayakumar's family members had reported him missing since June 12 seeking assistance to find him.

Police on notification by cattle farmers that a decomposed body was lying at Maathoo near Vara'ni in Point Pedro, recovered the body Tuesday and handed it over to Point Pedro Base Hospital for postmortem examinations.
