Civilian's body found with torture marks in Jaffna

The body of civilian with gunshot wounds was discovered Wednesday night in Kalviyangkaadu, Jaffna on Aadiyapaatham road, close to Naayanmaarkaadu junction, sources in Jaffna said. The body bore several injuries which medical officers at the Jaffna Teaching hospital confirmed as inflicted due to torture.

The victim was identified as Thiyagarajah Vasikumar, 30, a day labourer and a father of two children from Vinaayakar Road, Irupaalai.

The victim was forcibly dragged out of his home by unidentified armed men and his body with his hand tied behind his back was recovered with several cut injuries to his body, sources said.

After autopsy the body of the victim was handed over to the relatives, hospital sources said.
