Students protest A'lampil air attack

Students of Karaithu'raippattu Educational Zone in Mullaiththeevu district demonstrated on Thursday condemning the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) aerial bombing in A'lampil that killed two civilians and injured six students on 11 July. They also burnt the effigies of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, the Army Chief Sarath Fonseka and Gotabhaya Rajapakse, sources in Mullaitheevu said.



Hundreds of students took part in the demonstration. The demonstration started in front of A'lampil Roman Catholic school around 10.00 a.m. and ended at A'lampil junction where a public meeting was held.

K. Sasikumar, a prefect of Mu'l'liyava'lai Viththiyaanantha College, presided the meeting.

SLAF dropped bombs targeting the fishermen fishing at the A'lampil beach on 11 July. In this attack, a 15-year student and an aged mother were killed and five students, P.Premkumar, A. Thinesh, Sarathkumar, Thushyanthan, Arulnesan and Miss. A. Alaiyarasi were injured.
