160 IDP families return to Moothoor

570 members of 160 families which fled from their villages Eachchilampattu, Mukaththuvaaram and Kalladi in Moothoor division following Sri Lanka Army's (SLA's) military offensives last year were brought from Batticaloa district Monday to temporary shelters located in Karadiyanaaru, Aayiththiyamalai, Chengkaladi, Kiraan and Koa'ra'laippattu. Twenty buses were deployed to transport them, civil sources said.

Buses with displaced families left Monday morning escorted by government officials and security personnel, and arrived in Verukal via Vaakarai the same day evening.

Thereafter the families were sent to their respective villages accompanied by village level officials, sources said.

About 3542 families fled from Trincomalee district last year and sought refuge in Batticaloa district. They are now being resettled in their own villages, sources said.
