Civilian shot dead in Chunnaakam

Unknown gunmen riding a motorbike shot dead a 27-year old father of three in Mayila'ni area in Chunnakam, Valikaamam, Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m., sources in Jaffna said. The killers followed the victim after he had brought his wife for a function in Chunnaakam and was returning home, when they shot him dead.

The victim was identified as Seeni Jeyaharan from Karampan Road, Oorezhu North.

Mallaakam Magistrate, Ms Sarojini Ilankovan, visited the scene and directed the Police to handover the body to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for postmortem examinations.

Further, two civilians sought refuge at the Human Rights Commission (HRC) offices in Jaffna. They have been taken to Jaffna prison to be held under protective custody, HRC officials said.
