PLOTE, SLA attacked in Vavuniya

Two members of the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and 4 Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldiers were wounded in two separate attacks launched by the Liberation Tigers in Koomankulam, 6 km west of Vavuniya town this morning.

PLOTE sources said one of their member identified as Shanmugam Vivekanandan, alias Dava, was wounded when the Liberation Tigers who came to the group's office around 8 a.m. fired at him.

Shanmugam Vivekanandan, however, escaped with injuries and has been brought to the Vavuniya hospital they said.

The attackers have then damaged the office and removed the documents from there they added.

Meanwhile four SLA soldiers and a PLOTE cadre were wounded when a vehicle they were traveling in was caught in a claymore mine near Koomankulam around 11.00 a.m.

PLOTE sources said they were on their way to the PLOTE camp which was attacked a short while before.

The PLOTE cadre wounded in the claymore mine attack has been identified as Ramasamy Selvakumar alias Anandbabu. He has been transferred to the Vavuniya hospital.

The wounded SLA soldiers Priyantha Kiribandara (22) Premathileka (27) Dissanayake (26) Somananda Herath (28) have been transferred to Anuradhapura hospital, further south of Vavuniya.
