In Eezham Tamil place names Cōlai, listed as a word of Dravidian etymology (DED 2891), is largely used to mean a forest or grove of wild trees.
Its variations, Tōlai (C/ T interchange), Tulā, Tulaval and Ōlai could also be seen in some Eezham Tamil place names (see column 74).
