Second attack against PLOTE

Armed youth belived to be members of the Liberation Tigers fired at one of the local organisers of the Peole's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) in Vavuniya. The incident occurred this afternoon at Rasenthirankulam on Nelukulam - Cheddikulam road west of Vavuniya town at 4.15 p.m.

The attack took place while one of the local PLOTE organisers, (Vasu) Thamilenthi was riding on a motorcycle from Vavuniya to Cheddikulam with one of group's allies Nadarajah Chanthiramohan (30).

Nadarajah Chanthiramohan, Vasu's relative, died on the spot while Vasu was wounded in the hand and leg.

Meanwhile, PLOTE sources said arrangements have been made to send Ramasamy Selvakumar (Anandbabu) who was wounded in the claymore mine attack at Koomankulam this morning to Colombo.

Selavakumar was injured in his right eye they said.

Police sources said that a civilian, Manickam Letchumi (35) of Pandarikulam Vavuniya was killed in the attack at Koomankulam.
