Three Liberation Tigers and one Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldier were killed in a confrontation at Uylankulam, around midnight, last night said SLA sources. The security forces said that they recovered 3 bodies of the LTTE along with arms and 2 hand grenades, the sources added.
The District Judge of Mannar who visited the scene with; the HQI Mannar, Ranjith Koditthuvakku and the Officer In Charge of Crimes of the Police, Ratnayake Banda, ordered the police to remove the bodies to the hospital. The judge has also ordered the officer in charge of the Uylankulam Convent SLA camp to search the area for any dead bodies as there has been a bad smell in the area and the paddy fields are flooded. Last night fighting between the security forces and the LTTE had taken place at the same spot where 6 traders were shot dead by the SLA, four on Friday and two on Sunday, said sources in Mannar. Meanwhile, the inquest into the 6 illegal traders' death, scheduled for this morning were postponed as the judge had to rush to inspect the fighting scene at Uylankulam.
