Youth seeks protection at Chaavakachcheari court

A youth from Kodikaamam appeared directly at Chaavakachcheari Court Tuesday seeking protection to his life due to death threats from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) backed armed paramilitary men and SLA troops. The magistrate directed the youth to be placed in the protective custody of Jaffna prison with the assistance of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna.

Many young men and women besides family men, due to fear of passing through SLA check points on the way to HRC Jaffna Office, are resorting to appear directly at the Courts, seeking protection from SLA and its paramilitary armed men, civil society sources in Jaffna said.

Meanwhile, a youth who escaped abduction during the SLA search at Valveddiththu'rai Tuesday, sought protection with Jaffna Human Rights Commission (HRC) Tuesday afternoon.
