Urumpiraay Sivakumaran's mother conferred with Naaddupattaa'lar award

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Tuesday posthumously conferred "Naaddu pattaa'lar" (Patriot) title on Mrs Annaledchumi Ponnuthurai, mother of Ponnuththurai Sivakumaran, honouring her for her passionate interest in the Tamil community and the contribution she made for the Tamil cause.

The full text of the communiqué issued by LTTE follows:

The Tamil nationalist Mrs.Annaledchumi Ponnuthurai, resident of Urumpirai passed away September 1st.She had great passion for the Tamil language and Tamil community. Accepting the leadership of "Thanthai Selva" she became an active member of Thamil Arasu Kadchi (Federal Party) and Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and made great contributions during the various forms of freedom fight for the rights of Tamil community.

Mrs.Annaledchumy, mother of five was responsible for instilling the feeling of national and self respect in her third son, the great hero Pon.Sivakumaran, who was the first to lose his life for Tamil freedom fight. When Sivakumaran was involved in Tamil Eelam freedom struggle she was the active force behind him. She provided great help to him during his activities involving use of arms and has the honour of molding him to lead the path for freedom fight.

After the death of Pon.Sivakumaran, she continued her political activities with greater vigour and worked hard for the liberation of Tamil Eelam. She became a member of Tamil Women's Federation and gave thought provoking and inspirational speeches about freedom from various platforms.

She provided assistance to the youth involved in freedom fight. She was a favourite revolutionary mother of Col.Kittu and was also closely associated with Lt.Col.Thileepan in his activities for freedom fight.

She made the people to be vigilant regarding the hidden agenda of Indian government before and after the arrival of Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF).

She was of immense help to the LTTE who fought against the Indian army. After the expulsion of Indian forces she took great interest in the activities of Mothers Front and was involved in establishing the political structure among the people.

She prepared as well collected dry rations from the public and supplied to the fighters in the field.

She had great faith in the leader of LTTE Velupillai Piraphakaran, who leads the Tamil Eelam Freedom fight, according to the hopes and expectation of Sivakumaran and continued to extend her support to the liberation struggle even in her old age.

LTTE honours her for the contributions made by her national interest and the liberation struggle by conferring her with the title "Naattu Patralar" (Patriot).
