Karuna group member shot dead in Vaazhaicheanai

Unidentified armed men shot dead Monday around 9:00 p.m a member of Karuna group at his house in Vinaayakapuram in Vaazhaicheanai in Batticaloa district, Kalkudaa police said.

The victim was identified as Varnakulasingham Illayarajah, 26, the father of two children and a resident at 4 th Cross Street in Vinaayakapuram in Vaazhaicheanai.

The Illayarajah, who had earlier been with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), had later joined with Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) and now had joined Karuna group and working for it.

Illayarajah who was attached to Karuna group Camp in Vellikanthai had come home a few days ago.

He was watching TV with his wife and children when the killers came to his house and took him away.

They took him to Vinaayakapuram junction where they interrogated him.

After having procured information from Illayarajah the killers shot him dead, leaving his body at the junction.

The victim's body bears bullet wounds on the head, chest and other parts, the police said.

Kalkudaa police are investigating into the killing.
