SLA shoots dead Jaffna youth

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers shot dead a 27-year old youth during curfew hours Friday night near Kottadi SLA camp inside Jaffna Municipal boundary, sources in Jaffna said.

The youth has been identified as Jeyarajah Jeyaruban from Earlaalai West in Jaffna, from the identity card found inside his clothes .

His body was transferred to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

SLA has informed the Jaffna Magistrate that the youth had a hand grenade in his possession and was shot dead while passing through the Kottadi SLA camp.

Witnesses have informed the court that Jeyaruban was detained by the SLA during Friday afternoon and that he could have been shot dead while in SLA detention.
