Muslim trader abducted in Maavadicheanai, STF arrests youth in Ka'ruvaakearni

Unidentified armed men way laid and abducted a Muslim trader Wednesday morning at Chanthivea'li Main Road in Vazhaichcheanai police division in Batticaloa district, Vaazhaichcheanai police said.
The abducted trader is identified as Mohamed Kasim Riyal, 30, a family man. Kasim Riyal had left to Batticaloa Tuesday around 5:15 p.m to purchase goods and had stayed overnight there. He was returning to Oattamaavadi when he was abducted. Tension prevailed in the Muslim areas in Vaazhaicheanai and Oattamaavadi following the abduction. Vaazhaichcheanai is located 30 km north of Batticaloa town. Meawhile, Kulanthaivel Krishnapillai, 29, was arrested at K'ruvaakearni by Special Task Force (STF) patrol unit from Kumpu'rumoolai Tuesday. The STF soldiers allegedly found a hand grenade in his trouser pocket when they searched him on suspicion. Krishnapillai was handed over to Batticaloa police. The police produced him at Batticaloa courts where he was ordered to kept in remand prison. Ka'ruvaakearni is located 29 km north of Batticaloa town.
