Laborer abducted, two seek refuge at Jaffna HRC

Two civilians sought protection at the offices of the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna Thursday, and Friday, due to threats for their lives from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitaries, officials at the HRC said. Meanwhile, a day laborer from Nallur Jaffna was abducted Wednesday, according to complaints by his relatives at the HRC offices.
A 26-year-old civilian from Puloly in Point Pedro sought protection Friday, and another 37-year-old family man from Dutch Road in Maanipay in Jaffna surrendered Thursday at the offices of the HRC. Chandran Thavanesan, 39, from Santhirasekarappillaiyaar Koayil area in Kalviyangkaadu in Nallur Jaffna was abducted by armed men in a white van near his house Wednesday, officials at the HRC saId.
