Two civilians shot dead in Jaffna

A well-known businessman from Chaavakachcheari and a young fisherman from Kurunakar were shot dead in two separate incidents Tuesday noon and Monday night in Jaffna, sources in Jaffna said.
Thurairajah James Luxan, 24, a fisherman from Watertank Road in Kurunakar was visiting his relatives in Irupaalai when unknown gunmen shot him and escaped. The killing occurred near the Kaanan Church where civilians, who had sought protection with the Jaffna Human Rights Council (HRC), are kept. Meanwhile, Thamotharampillai Navanakumar, 45, a popular businessman and a father of three from Dutch Road in Chaavakachcheari, was shot dead near the Jaffna Model Market Tuesday at 12:00 noon, at a Communication Center owned by the victim, civil sources in Jaffna said.
