A civilian from Madduvil north in Thenmaraadchi sought
protection Thursday with Human Rights Commission (HRC)
Jaffna due to death threats from Sri Lanka Army and SLA-
backed paramilitary men.
The civilian who sought protection is 27-year-old and a
resident of Madduvil in Thenmaraadchi.
Many civilians including youths, family men and families with
children from Thenmaraadchi seeking protection with Jaffna
HRC are already placed in the protective custody in Jaffna
prison. Meanwhile, the persons placed in the protective custody of
Jaffna prison have submitted an appeal to Jaffna Magistrate
through prison authorities to immediately attend to their
acute need for basic facilities in Jaffna prison besides
requesting authorities to take constructive and remedial
decisions on their future. The inmates have announced that they will engage in fasting
protest and mass agitation if their appeal is not attended
before 30 November.
