[TamilNet, Sunday, 18 November 2007, 17:36 GMT]
28 Tamil prisoners who began a protest fast Saturday morning by climbing on the roof of Batticaloa prison and demanding immediate release, ended the protest Sunday around 7:30 p.m, after talks held with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) officials who met the protestors in Batticaloa prison, prison officials said.
Two protestors who had fainted during the fast are being treated at Batticaloa Teaching hospital. They were admitted to the hospital Sunday around 4:00 p.m. The Tamil prisoners have been languishing in Batticaloa prison for more than two years after being arrested for alleged involvement in "terrorist activities," and have not been produced in courts, legal society sources in Batticaloa said.
