Vara'ni resident seeks protection with Jaffna HRC

A civilian from Va’ra’ni area in Thenmaraadchchi sought protection with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office due to death threats and attempts of abduction by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and SLA-backed paramilitaries. The main commanding SLA base of the 52nd brigade is located in Vara'ni.

26-year-old labourer, of Karampaikku’richchi area in Va’ra’ni complained to the HRC that there had been attempts to abduct him.

The number of civilians from Thenmaraadchchi villages including Va’ra’ni, Madduvil seeking protection with HRC is on the rise, HRC officials said.
