SLA shoots dead youth in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops shot and killed a youth going home along Amman Veethi in Nalloor, Jaffna Monday and took away his body in their vehicle, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), and SLA in Mukamaalai and Nakarkoayil Northern Front Defence Lines (FDL), exchanged artillery fire from Monday 4:00 a.m till evening, the sources added.
The Nalloor youth was shot dead during a cordon and search operation in Nalloor area. SLA claimed to have recovered weapons including a pistol but has not revealed any information about the whereabouts of the youth's body. Meanwhile, the SLA and the LTTE have been engaged in heavy artillery duel and exchange of rocket fire in Mukamaalai and Nakarkoayil FDLs position since 4:00 a.m Monday. The clashes continued until evening but no official information is available from both sides. Sri Lanka Armed Forces are heavily deployed along the coasts of Jaffna peninsula where defence posts are fortified; and tension prevails among the troops, sources in Jaffna said. The SL armed forces are gripped in tension because of the fear of possible LTTE attacks on Tuesday, the day LTTE leader Velupillai Pirbakaran is expected to deliver his annual Heroes’ Day speech, residents along the coasts said.
