Four shops robbed in Kalmunai

Four business establishments located in the heart of Kalmunai city, in Amparai District, were broken into, and the contents and cash looted by unidentified robbers at 3:30 am Tuesday, police said.
A jewellery store, a cellular phone sales centre, a footwear outlet, and a book store were targeted by the gang of robbers. Meanwhile, at least 46 houses were robbed in Aarayampathi area in Batticaloa district within the past one month. The civilians in the area are alarmed by the increase in the incidence of robberies in the area, civil society sources said. Meanwhile, a number of robberies have been taking place recently in Kallady and Naavatkudaa, where a number of homes have been targeted during day as well as night, and cash, jewellery and luxury items have been stolen.
