Unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade Friday around 7:30 p.m on World Vision (WV) Batticaloa Office at Rosairo Lane causing damage to three vehicles of the organization, Batticaloa Police Head Quarter sources said. Investigation into the attack is being conducted but no one has been arrested so far, the sources added.
The grenade fell and exploded near the garage where the three vehicles were parked and none of their staff was injured because no one was in the office when the attack was made, WV officials said. The WV Head Office, concerned with the safety of its staff and properties, has made representations to the related high authorities of Sri Lanka government, the officials further said. The office building too has been slightly damaged and the motive of the attack is not known, the police said. The attack took place in Batticaloa city where Sri Lanka Army troops and the paramilitary armed men who operate with them are always present, Batticaloa residents said. World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization based in U.K, dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.
