Unidentified armed men burst into a recently abandoned camp of Karuna group located on Chaakaamam road, Aalayadiveampu in Akkaraippattu police division in Ampaa'rai district Wednesday early morning at 3:30 a.m, and blasted the building by detonators after destroying the contents. The armed men fled from the scene after leveling the building, Police said.
A member of Karuna group who was a resident of 40th mile post, escaped two days ago, and as an act of revenge his father was adducted from his home and kept imprisoned in the building bound by chains. The armed gang freed the captive prior to bombing the place, Akkraippattu police said. After the recent escape of Karuna to Britain using a false passport, there have been a number of clashes between the members of rival Pillayan group and Karuna group. Police said no one was killed in the incident. Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told media in Colombo that the camp was blasted by Karuna group which is on the run.
