2 youths related to Maheswaran killing produced in Jaffna Court

Jaffna police produced two youths from Kurunakar, alleged to be involved in the assassination of Tamil parliamentarian Maheswaran, Wednesday before Jaffna Magistrate R. T. Vignarajah who directed the youths to be produced before Colombo Chief Justice. The two youths were arrested on information claimed to be found in the National Identity Card (NIC) of the youths injured in the shooting of Maheswaran and later arrested by the police, sources in Jaffna said.

The police arrested the two youths in a Kurunakar address which was said to be found in the NIC of the youths arrested with injuries.

One of the NIC addresses was Kurunakar and the other from Wattala in Colombo, sources close to Jaffna police said.

Jaffna police conducted a search in the Kurunakar address and arrested the two youths on instructions by Colombo Crime Branch to Jaffna Assistant Superintendent of Police, the sources said.

The youths produced in Jaffna Court will be flown to Colombo Wednesday evening or Thursday, the police said.

It is not known whether the two arrested in Kurunakar are relatives of the injured arrestees receiving medical treatment.
