Sri Lanka parliament debates emergency extension motion

Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Mr.Ratnasiri Wickremanayake Wednesday moved a motion in parliament to extend the State of Emergency for another month. The State of Emergency is in force in the island since August, 2005.

Meanwhile, the new Tamil National Alliance (TNA) national list parliamentarian, Mr.R.M.Imam, in his maiden speech on Tuesday said he had accepted the post to work for the welfare of the Jaffna Muslim people now living scattered in several regions.

He thanked the TNA and Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) for giving an opportunity to serve Jaffna Muslims. He vowed to work for the unity of Tamils and Muslims in the country to achieve their rights in their own land.
