A delegation of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) led by its leader Mr.Rauf Hakeem told a leading election monitoring institution PAFFREL that the decision of the Election Commissioner to allow the identity cards issued by the defense establishment to voters to cast their votes in Batticaloa local election would lead to mass scale polling fraud. SLMC said that identity cards issued by government security establishment would only help the supporters of the government and its allies. Voters with only national identity should be allowed to cast their votes, the delegation said.
A SLMC delegation led by Mr.Rauf Hakeem met the PAFFREL Chairman Mr.Kingsely Rodrigo on Tuesday and discussed a series of steps to stop election malpractices in Batticaloa local poll. SLMC delegation also told PAFFREL to see that election officials in the Batticaloa district on the polling day should not be posted to man polling centres and counting centres as it would also lead to election malpractices. Hence the SLMC was of opinion that officials from outside Batticaloa district should be posted to man polling stations and counting centres.
