One LTTE member killed - SLA

The Sri Lankan Army sources said that they shot and killed a member of the Liberation Tigers at Uylankulam, west of Vavuniya yesterday afternoon. The body was taken to Mannar hospital in the evening.

Hospital sources said that there were multiple gunshot wounds on the body. A tag number was also found, but the body has not been identified yet, they said.

Meanwhile heavy rains has been lashing in the Vanni area for last four days.

Sources said that the river 'Paali Aaru' in the Vellaankulam area in the Mannar mainland is spilling over and the roads are impassable.

Irrigation officials have recorded a rainfall of 3ft. 3inches at Iranaimadu Tank and 26 m.m at Akkaraayankulam Tank.
