Students protest abduction of girl students in Kalkudaa

Students of Kalkudaa Naamakal Viththiyaalayam continue their boycott demanding the immediate release of two girl students of the school abducted last week by paramilitary men in white van, sources in Kalkudaa said. Kalkudaa police chief summoned the principal and teachers of the school and urged them to persuade the students to suspend the boycott, student leaders said.

Gunasuntharam Pusparanee and Yoganantham Yasothini, both 16-year-old and 11 grade students in Kalkudda Naamakal Viththiyalayaam were abducted on 3rd and 4th March.

Meanwhile, policemen from Kalkudaa police station went house to house gathering parents and others to a meeting held at the school.

The police warned the attendees not to refrain from voting in the local government elections which is being held after many years.

The parents and public said that they will neither paricipate in the election or allow the school to function until the two abducted girls are released immediately.

The Peaththaalai Meththaveddu police station is located 500 metres from the place where the white van armed men abducted the teenage students.

Tsunami affected people from the villages of Kalkudaa and Paasikkuda in Batticaloa district are resettled in Karungkaalichcholai.

The relatives of the two abducted girls have registered complaints with the Police and also approached the paramilitary camp in Vaazhaicheanai urging help to locate the missing girls.

Karungkaalichcholai is situated 32 km north of Batticaloa town.
