Grenade attack on UPFA supporter in Ea’raavoor

Two unidentified youths on motor cycle lobbed a hand grenade Wednesday around 9:15 p.m on the house of a supporter on the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) at Ea’raavoor Mosque Street in Batticaloa district causing damage to the house, Ea’raavoor police said. The owner of the house had been a supporter of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) party before switching on to UPFA, sources in Ea’ravoor said.
The owner of the house attacked is M. M. M. Anvar of Ea’ravoor Mosque street. There were no one in Anvar’s house at the time of the attack. The windows, doors and the walls of the house were damaged, Ea’raavoor police said. Muslims regions in the Eastern Province are experiencing continuing antagonism between SLMC and political parties including UPIA, according to residents.
