Ramadoss urges Karunanidhi for timely action

The ruling Congress of India has no policy alternatives towards Sri Lankan affairs. The DMK should take 'a cue' from the Communist Party of India in denouncing Indian arms to Sri Lanka, said Dr. S. Ramadoss, leader of Paaddaa'li Makka'l Kadchi (PMK, Toilers' Party) while speaking to media on the occasion of a demonstration in Chennai on Thursday. "The Tamil Nadu State Assembly should come out of its slumber and pass a resolution in this respect. The Centre should be reminded of the strength of Tamil parliamentarians. Tamil Nadu people are ready to pay any price for the Eezham cause," said Ramadoss whose party is an ally of the ruling Congress coalition government of India, along with DMK.

Dr. Ramadoss in the interview to media persons said that Tamils in Tamil Nadu "were ready to pay any price for finding a solution to the problems of Eezham Tamils." He pointed out that the ruling Dravida Munneatta Kazhakam (DMK) should take "a cue" from the Communist Party of India (CPI) that had a resolution at its national conclave in Hyderabad seeking an immediate halt to arms supply to Sri Lanka.

The PMK leader wanted the Tamil Nadu Assembly to adopt a similar resolution.

"Let the State government wake up from its slumber and remind the Centre that 40 MPs are from Tamil Nadu."

Dr. Ramadoss regretted that "there was no change in New Delhi's policy which favoured Sri Lanka."

He said that a favourable climate prevailed now and asked the Tamil Nadu government not to allow the "opportunity to slip away."

A large crowd attended the demonstration organised by Tamil Protection Movement (TPM), spearheaded by Thirumavalavan and strengthened by the collaboration of Ramadoss and other Tamil leaders in Chennai on Thursday.

In the meantime, a recent feedback from a reader in Tamil Nadu, received by TamilNet read: "Mr. Karunanidhi is the only person who can twist the arms of the Centre. But, he will think of doing it only when it overlaps with his interests."
