STF shoots dead 2 Tamils in Vavu’natheevu

Special Task Force (STF) commandoes shot dead two Tamil civilians at 8:30 a.m in Paalcheanai area in Vavu’natheevu police division in Batticaloa district, following a Claymore attack on a STF road patrol unit in Paavatkodicheanai in Paalcheanai, sources in Batticaloa said.

The two victims were identified as Sivananthan Uthayakumar, 38, of Ka’n’nakinakar, Paavatkodicheanai, and Chinnavan Masilamany, 32, of Ooththumadu area.

When the Claymore device exploded the STF chased the two victims who happened to be near the place of attack.

Vavu’natheevu police recovered the bodies and handed them over to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital.

The killed family men, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) due to Sri Lanka Army (SLA) offensives, had been resettled recently.
