Court ordered Jayantha Wijesekara, Trincomalee district Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian, for further remand till April 21 when he was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thursday morning in connection with the alleged unlawful removal of official vehicles belongs to two dissident MPs of the JVP from the premises of parliamentary complex, legal sources said.
Lawyers on behalf of Jayantha Wijesekara moved for bail. But the police objected that he should be further remanded as his release on bail would hamper further inquiry into the alleged offence, legal sources said. Police further submitted to court that two more suspects in this incident had been arrested and are to be produced in court for identification parade. Jayantha Wijesekara is a member of the JVP led by Somawanse Amerasinghe. The dissident group of the JVP is led by Wimal Weerawanse.
