LTTE, SLA exchange artillery fire in Thenmaraadchi

A large number of artillery shells believed to have been launched by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Thursday morning towards the Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) in Thenmaraadchi fell in the vicinity of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) bases in Va'ra'ni, Mirusuvil Educated Women’s Scheme and Usan.
A number of shells exploded with deafening noise and it is believed that there was significant number of SLA casualties during the pre dawn artillery attacks launched by LTTE. However no official details were released by the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL). Most of the shells exploded in Usan, Mirusuvil where many residents have already vacated their homes long time back with only a few families remaining in the area. During the artillery attack some of the shells fell near the army base within the residential area in Usan injuring a middle aged woman. The victim identified as V.Rajeswary, 43, was first admitted to Chaavakachcheari Government hospital and then transported to Jaffna Teaching hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile SLA also directed artillery attacks toward LTTE – controlled areas. No details of casualties are available.
