Police protection to post offices in east

Special police protection is to be provided to all post offices in the three districts, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampaarai, from Monday at the request of Department of Elections. The Election Department has already made arrangement to hand over polling cards to the post offices with effect from Monday to be distributed to eligible voters in the province, media sources said.

The polling cards distribution is to be completed on April 29, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Elections sources said that Pakistan and Thailand have agreed to send monitors to Sri Lanka to supervise eastern poll which is scheduled to be held on May 10.

The Commissioner of Elections has requested eight countries to send monitors to supervise the election, sources said.
