Sinhala goons terrorize Tamils in Negombo

Unidentified Sinhala gangs are allegedly engaged in terrorizing Tamil civilians residing along Assarappawatte Lane in Negombo town and robbing their valuables including jewellery, cash, cellphone and other items, reports in Colombo said.

The gangs operate at night and waylay girls, students, and government servants who return home after their work, and rob their belongings. Abusive language is part of the attackers arsenal according to civil society sources.

Affected people are reluctant to go to police to report the incidents as fear reprisals.

Tamil traders in the area are also threatened by these gangs that extort money from them, reports said.
