Jaffna police recovered Sunday night the corpse of a young female with gun shot wounds and signs of torture in highly decomposed state from an abandoned house in a deserted area in Naavaanthurai, Jaffna. The National Identity Card (NIC) recovered from the body bears the name, Annalingam Anitha, 22, from Kokkuvil.
The victim must have been killed three days before, the police who handed the body to Jaffna Teaching hospital mortuary Monday afternoon, said. The police were informed by persons going along the road near the said house who had noticed the offensive odour issuing from there. The police went to the house Sunday night and conducted inquiries. Though the NIC found with the corpse reveals the name Annalingam Anitha of Kokkuvil, there had been no complaints made anywhere reporting her missing, the police said. The victim’s body had wounds caused by scorching or burning besides gunshot injuries indicating she had been tortured before being shot and killed, the police added. Sri Lanka Army (SLA) occupies the above area.
