JVP secretary lodges complaints of GoSL's abuse of power

Tilvin Silva, the General Secretary of Jathika Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) in letter addressed to Dayanantha Dissanayake, the Elections Commissioner (EC), has pointed out the large scale abuses being committed by the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) in the East.
In his letter sent Tuesday Mr.Silva highlighted that the GOSL has been making use of the vehicles and other resources belonging to the government departments and in addition the cabinet ministers have been making of the official guest houses. He also mentioned the escalation in the number of incidents where the election posters and placards of his party has been smashed up and his party candidates intimidated. Mr.Silva also appealed to the EC to take the necessary steps to ensure free and fair elections and to stop the abuse of power by GOSL. Meanwhile, the elections office of JVP located at Akpopura was set on fire Tuesday early morning at about 1:00 a.m. by a group of unidentified men arriving in a black pick up, JVP sources said in a compliant lodged with Kantha'laay police. Kantha'laay police have commenced investigations.
