300 families displaced in Ea'raavoor

More than 300 families have temporarily displaced from the Tami - Musim border villages in Ea'raavoor. Although normalcy is returning, tension prevails in the border villages and the Sri Lankan armed forces are deployed along the main road and the traffic was restored, according to the Police. Several Tamil families who have sought refuge at Thannaamunai Church are yet to return. The Church was assisting the displaced families and there has been no government assistance, the refugees complained.

Several Tamil families from Iyangkea'ni, north of Ea'raavoor, Tha'lavaay, east of Ea'raavoor, Aa'rumukaththaan kudiyiruppu in the south and 5th cross road in the west and Muslim families from Michchi nakar in Ea'raavoor south, Punnakkudaa in the east and other bordering areas have displaced due to the tension that prevailed.

The 23 Muslim youths who were arrested by the STF on Monday are still under Police custody.

Private and public sector establishments remain closed.

A peace meeting between the conflicting parties, the TMVP paramilitary-cum-political party and the Muslims, was scheduled to take place at Ea'raavoor Police station Wednesday evening.
