Vavuniyaa Inter school sports competition indefinitely postponed

A sports competition for the students of a number of schools within the Northern provincial council scheduled to be held in Vauniyaa has been postponed indefinitely due to security concerns, Trincomalee based Northern Province Ministry of Education announced in a media communiqué released Monday.

Plans had already been finalized jointly by Jaffna Government Agent (GA) and Northern province Ministry of Education for an inter school competition among Jaffna schools to be held within the next few days and arrangements were made to transport more than 1000 students by ship in three batches from Kankesanthu'rai (KKS) to Trincomalee and then transport them by buses to Vavuniyaa.

However, an abrupt announcement has been made by the Northern Province Ministry of Education that the sports competition has been postponed until further notice due to the unsafe situation prevailing throughout the island.

Meanwhile Jaffna GA announced Monday that the transport of civilians by ship from KKS to Trincomalee will continue as scheduled but the arrangement to transport the students has been put on hold till further announcement.
